"A whistling girl and a crowing hen always come to no good end." This is an old saying my grandfather would use to warn my mother about the perils of living in a man's world when she'd get mad and ruffle her proverbial feathers. He recognized early on that my mother wouldn't be the stereotypical girl for that time period. My grandmother was a bit of a crowing hen, too- a little feisty at times. She instilled a love for antiques and collecting with her daughter as she grew up. And collect, she did!
